If you’ve found your way here, reading this, there’s a good chance you’re struggling with something right now.
As a Christian counselor in Chambersburg, PA, it is my goal to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space and biblical guidance to help you move toward hope and healing.
Are you feeling the weight of stress, anxiety, or depression?
Or maybe you’re going through something you never imagined, like divorce.
Perhaps you have struggled your whole life with insecurity and low self-worth, and you wonder if you’ll ever move past it.
If you’re searching for a way to find peace and purpose in your hard thing while growing in your faith and deepening your relationship with God, I want you to know that you’re not alone.
As Christians, when we are facing really difficult situations, it can be hard to make sense of it. We wonder why God is allowing this and what He wants from us. We don’t just want to feel better, we want to find hope and healing through Christ, even when our faith feels shaken.
I know this because I have been there. When I have gone through personal struggles, as a Christian, I desperately wanted to seek God and try to understand and grow in my relationship with Christ through that time.
The spiritual growth and insight I gained through my own journey with Christian counseling has been something I have continued to carry with me. In fact, my desire to grow my faith and seek God has only increased throughout my day-to-day and the big and small challenges I face in life.
And it has inspired me to offer counseling from a biblical perspective for other women.
Christian counseling uses scripture as the foundation to guide you toward what is right biblically in your situation. This unique form of therapy combines the evidence-based methods of traditional counseling with Christian values and teachings, providing a holistic approach to mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
As I work with Christian women, I allow them to choose what they would like to integrate into their therapeutic journey, including prayer, scripture, discussing faith, books, and other faith-based resources.
I know that some women come with negative, or even harmful experiences with church and religion, so I want to meet them where they are to help them discover and experience the love and restoration of Jesus. As we explore their own faith walk, women are given tools and support to find healing, restoration, and a renewed sense of purpose in Christ.
Let’s look at the benefits of Christian counseling and discover how it can equip you with tools and skills that will help you in your current struggle, as well as in any difficulty you face throughout your life.

What is Christian counseling?
Christian counseling, also known as biblical counseling or faith-based counseling, is a form of therapy that combines psychological therapy methods, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy with Christian beliefs and teachings.
In my approach using CBT, where negative thoughts are challenged to determine if they are true or not, the basis of truth is God’s word. The therapeutic modalities I use are congruent with scripture - meaning I don’t use any techniques or theories that do not align with what is written in the Bible.
CBT’s main focus is on transforming our thoughts, which in turn will transform our feelings, reactions, and behaviors. This idea is mentioned repeatedly in the Bible. For example, Philippians 4:8 tells us, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
As a Christian therapist, I aim to address the mental and emotional aspects of women’s struggles through a biblical lens. By incorporating prayer, scripture, and biblical principles, I help women find clarity, healing, and growth in their faith.
Christian counseling encompasses a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, grief, relationship problems, and more. In Christian counseling, both the counselor and client are Christian and requires that the client wants to incorporate her faith into her counseling journey.
My goal is to provide Christian women with a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore her struggle, while pointing her to Christ as the true source of healing. I see each woman as uniquely created by God, planned with purpose before the foundation of the world. Who better to help us with our most complex, intimate problems than the very one who created us?
The role of faith in counseling
Faith in Christ is the source of transformation and growth in Christian counseling, which is what sets it apart from secular counseling. Rooting the therapy process in Jesus provides women with hope, guidance, and strength during difficult times. The Bible is not simply something that sounds good in theory, it is the source of wisdom and truth that offers practical guidance for life's challenges.
Prayer is also an integral part of Christian counseling, as supplication, gratitude, and a source of comfort in women’s relationship with God.
In Christian counseling, faith is not seen as a separate entity from the therapeutic process. Instead, it is integrated into every aspect of the counseling sessions. I encourage women to explore her beliefs, examine her relationship with God, and seek spiritual growth. By incorporating faith into counseling, women can find comfort, meaning, and purpose in her struggles, ultimately leading to a deeper connection with God.

Benefits of Christian counseling
Christian counseling offers a multitude of benefits for women seeking guidance, support, and healing. Let's explore some of the key advantages:
1. Holistic approach to well-being
As a Christian therapist for women in Pennsylvania, I bring a holistic approach to well-being, addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a woman’s life. As a counselor, I recognize that all these dimensions are interconnected and influence each other. By considering the whole person, I can provide a more integrated and effective form of therapy.
2. Integration of faith and therapy
One of the most significant benefits of Christian counseling is the integration of faith and therapy. This unique approach lets women explore her concerns through the lens of her beliefs and values.
Christian CBT uses scripture to challenge women’s negative beliefs that she may have held throughout her entire life. Once a woman can hold these beliefs against the word of God, she can see how her feelings and actions may stem from false beliefs she is carrying about herself, others, and the world around her.
This self-awareness opens the door to creating new thought patterns that align with the truth of God’s word, so she can begin to live authentically and courageously rooted in Christ.

3. Supportive and nurturing environment
Christian counseling provides a supportive and nurturing environment for women to explore her struggles and find true healing. As a licensed social worker, I enjoy incorporating effective therapeutic techniques with sound Christian doctrine to help women form a deep understanding of her Christian beliefs.
I create a safe space where women can openly express her concerns, fears, and doubts without judgment. This supportive environment fosters trust and encourages women to explore her faith in a real way amidst hard circumstances to promote growth in her walk with God.
4. Guidance in spiritual growth
As Christians, when we face hard things in life, we often ask (or yell) “why, God, why??” And it is usually through these hard times when we experience the greatest amount of spiritual growth and refinement.
As a Christian counselor, I help guide women in their spiritual growth and development. I help women deepen their understanding of God's love, grace, and purpose for her life, encouraging them to develop their own spiritual disciplines for life-long growth.
Through exploration of Scripture, prayer, and reflection, women can gain insight and growth in their spiritual journey and find practical ways to apply their faith to daily life.
I provide tools and resources to support women in their spiritual growth and help them navigate the challenges of living out their faith in the real, daily, good, and hard parts of life.

5. Restoration and healing
My aim is to point Christian women to Christ to bring about restoration and healing in their life. By addressing the root causes of their struggle and integrating faith into the therapeutic process, women can experience deep emotional and spiritual healing.
Christian counseling helps women find forgiveness, reconciliation, and inner peace, enabling her to move forward in her life with a renewed sense of hope and purpose.

Finding peace through Christian counseling
In today's fast-paced and demanding world, finding peace can often seem like an elusive goal. Women are more overwhelmed than ever – experiencing stress, anxiety, and the pressures of everyday life. Christian counseling offers a pathway to peace by helping women find hope, help, and a deeper connection with God.
Christian counselors understand that peace is not solely dependent on external circumstances but also on inner peace of mind and spirit through a relationship with Jesus. We help women identify and address the underlying causes of their stress, whether it be unresolved trauma, relationship issues, low self-worth, or feeling disconnected with what scripture says and her beliefs about herself.
By integrating faith into the therapeutic process, I provide Christian women with tools, strategies, and insights to find peace amidst life's challenges. My goal is to help women learn to “self-counsel”, so they can carry the things they learn in counseling throughout their life to help them through any struggles they face, now and in the future.
Christian counseling encourages women to surrender her worries and fears to God, trusting in His guidance and provision. It offers a space for women to explore her faith, learn to view her circumstances from a biblical perspective, and find peace in the midst of life's storms.
Finding peace through Christian counseling is a transformative experience. It allows women to let go of burdens, experience healing, and cultivate a sense of calmness and serenity. By integrating faith into the therapeutic process, Christian women can find lasting peace that transcends circumstances and provides a solid foundation for their life.

Discovering purpose through Christian counseling
Another significant benefit of Christian counseling is the opportunity to truly begin to live out one's purpose as a Christian. Many women struggle with a sense of direction and purpose in life, often feeling lost and unfulfilled.
Christian counseling can help women find peace in the midst of the storm while exploring their unique gifts, talents, and passions, and begin to move forward in faith. Rather than being held back by fear and anxiety, women can move forward with courage and confidence in who she is in Christ.
When working with the women of Chambersburg and throughout Pennsylvania as a Christian counselor, I guide women through a process of self-discovery, helping them identify their goals, values, strengths, and desires. As we incorporate these things into their therapy from a faith perspective, women can gain a deeper understanding of God's plan for her life. Faith based counseling offers a space for women to discern God's will, seek His guidance, and make decisions that align with their faith and values.
Through exploration of scripture and prayerful reflection, women can find clarity and direction in their struggle. Christian-based therapy encourages women to surrender her plans and desires to God, trusting in His wisdom and guidance. It helps women align her goals and aspirations with God's purpose for her life, leading to a greater sense of peace and purpose.
Christian counseling allows women to find meaning and significance, knowing that she is living in alignment with God's will. As a faith-based therapist, I provide the tools, support, and guidance needed to navigate the complexities of discerning one's purpose and empowers women to live a life that is fulfilling, purposeful, and deeply rooted in her faith.

How Christian counseling differs from secular counseling
Christian counseling differs from secular counseling in several key ways. While both forms of therapy aim to help individuals overcome life's challenges, Christian counseling incorporates faith, Scripture, and biblical principles into the therapeutic process. Here are some of the main differences:
1. Integration of faith with therapeutic models
Christian counseling integrates faith into every aspect of the therapeutic process. It recognizes that faith plays a central role in an individual's well-being and seeks to address spiritual concerns alongside mental and emotional struggles.
Christian counselors incorporate prayer, scripture, and biblical wisdom into their sessions, helping individuals find healing and guidance in their faith.
In contrast, secular counseling focuses solely on the psychological aspects of an individual's struggles, without considering their spiritual dimension. While secular counseling can be effective in addressing mental and emotional issues, it may not provide the same level of spiritual guidance and support as Christian counseling.
2. Belief in the power of God's Word
Christian counseling places a strong emphasis on the power of God's Word to bring healing and transformation. Christian counselors view the Bible as the source of truth, wisdom, and guidance that can offer practical solutions to life's challenges. They help individuals apply biblical principles to their struggles and find practical ways to live out their faith.
In contrast, secular counseling draws from various psychological theories and techniques to address individuals' concerns. While these approaches can be effective, they don’t get to the core issues of suffering and the hope and healing that can only be found through Christ, which is explored through scripture and biblical principles in Christian counseling.
3. Goal of spiritual growth
Christian counseling aims to facilitate spiritual growth and development in individuals' lives. It recognizes that individuals are on a spiritual journey and seeks to support them in their quest for a deeper connection with God.
Christian counselors help individuals explore their faith, deepen their understanding of Scripture, and provide guidance on living out their beliefs.
In contrast, secular counseling focuses primarily on addressing immediate concerns and providing practical solutions to mental and emotional issues. While secular counseling can be effective in addressing these concerns, it does not provide the spiritual guidance from an eternal mindset that is incorporated into Christian counseling.
Choosing a Christian counselor
Choosing a Christian counselor is an important decision that should not be taken lightly. Here are some factors to consider when selecting a Christian counselor:
1. Qualifications and training
Ensure that the Christian counselor you choose is qualified and has received appropriate training in counseling. Look for counselors who have completed relevant degrees or certifications in counseling or psychology.
It’s also important that your Christian counselor has a strong biblical foundation and understanding of how to incorporate faith into the counseling process. Look for a counselor with a certificate or training in biblical counseling or Christian-based therapy. Additionally, inquire about their experience and areas of expertise to ensure they are equipped to address your specific concerns.
For example, I have a master’s in social work and am a licensed social worker, with over 15 years of experience in mental health working with various populations. I also hold a certificate in biblical counseling, have training in Christian Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and continue to learn more about integrating biblical truth into my counseling methods. It’s also important to me to be continuously cultivating spiritual disciplines, such as reading and journaling scripture and studying from theologians with biblically sound doctrine, always using scripture to discern truth.
Look for a counselor that is passionate about their faith and incorporating it into the therapeutic process.
2. Compatibility and rapport
Establishing a strong rapport and sense of trust with your counselor is crucial for a successful therapeutic relationship. Schedule an initial consultation or phone call to get a sense of the counselor's approach, values, and personality.
It is essential to feel comfortable and understood by your counselor, as this will greatly impact the effectiveness of the therapy.

4. Referrals and recommendations
Seek referrals and recommendations from people you trust, such as pastors, friends, or family members who have had positive experiences with Christian counseling. Personal recommendations can provide valuable insights into the counselor's effectiveness and compatibility.
5. Practical considerations
Consider practical factors such as location, availability, and fees when selecting a Christian counselor. Choose a counselor who is conveniently located or offers online Christian counseling in your state.
Choosing a Christian counselor is a personal decision that should be based on your specific needs and preferences. Take the time to research and interview potential counselors to find the one who is the best fit for you.

More than ever, women are struggling with career issues, whether it be from juggling being a mom with working, feeling stuck due to insecurity and fear, or dealing with a stressful work environment.
